Happy Chanukah!
Don’t we all love lighting the first candle, knowing that it’s
only going to get better and brighter as each night adds another flame?
It’s the same with shul’s Just One Thing.
Last Tuesday for her Just One Thing, Mandy organised a shul
night out, and it was fantastic – an excellent turn out, lively conversation,
and off the back of it, plans for a blow-away-the festive-cobwebs ramble on
January 3rd. Watch this space!
On Shabbat, David Hoffman’s One Thing involved bringing Shir
Chadash to the Shabbat morning service. (And a big mazeltov to David, on becoming
the new Chairperson of Limmud!) Downstairs, just off the Alexander Levy Hall,
we were treated to a musical service, complete with guitar, mandolin, piano and
voice. The essential components of the Shabbat service are all there – the key
prayers, the Torah reading, Haftarah, but delivered creatively and
interactively. It’s a different and refreshing way of worship.
And if you’re sad you missed it, don’t be! Because there’s a
special Shir Chadash service this Friday night complete with doughnuts and a
chavurah supper. Details from Mandy in the shul office.
Whether you’ve done your One Thing or not, be sure to come
to the Just One Thing grand finale – our spectacular Chanukah Party this Sunday
13th December, 3 – 6pm at shul. It’s free and there’s something to
suit everyone – a shiur from Rabbi, games for children and ... ta-dah! ...
doughnuts! Give Mandy a ring if you can, to say you’ll be there, but the most important
thing is to turn up.
And remember to check the Just One Thing Facebook page, and
tell us what you’ve done! Sh’choyach to Jay, for setting this up as his Just
One Thing!
(And mazeltov to Richard and Amal, who got married for their
Just One Thing. Beat that!)
