Shavuot at JR

Shavuot is all about revelation, and we had plenty of it. First of all, those who weren't familiar with Shir Chadash, discovered how fantastic their music is, at a pre-Erev Shavuot celebration. David Hoffmann received special applause for his Book of Ruth - the whole Book condensed into a memorable song. And it wasn't only JR members who were there - we were joined by our fellow communities from Menorah and Sha-arei Shalom.
Our Rabbi talked us through Havdalah (it was too early to have it - and if Havdalah separates the holy from the mundane - how can we have Havdalah to separate the Festival of Shabbat from the Festival of Shavuot?)
I had a personal revelation too. When Rabbi Silverman (medium sized) invited Rabbi Sborovsky from Menorah (tall) and Rabbi Zalud from Sha'arei Shalom (short) to join him in leading the Amidah, I was struck by how easy it would be for them to perform the John Cleese and Two Ronnies sketch - 'I look down on him etc ...'
Our study sessions - on the boundaries of belief and Shabbat and digital technologies were both very lively, and we ended reluctantly - we could have easily gone all all night.
Shul was well attended for Shavuot itself, and after a lovely service, the next revelation was how enormously talented our members are - the entries for our cheesecake Bake-off were mouth-watering.

Rabbi invited all us to sample the goodies - and the rumours that Slimming World representatives were massing outside shul are just plain wrong!

So who was the winner?  The maker of this delicious cheesecake ...

Poppy!

Congratulations to Poppy, and everyone who helped make our Shavuot one to remember.
